[Omar Estrada] “When I declare the Sequence settings the “default compression” seems to be DVCPRO 1080p30. Is this the one? (I see other options there that sound logical too). “
Yes. That is the COMPRESSOR type…just like DVCPRO HD 720p24 at 23.98 has the DVCPRO HD 720p60 COMPRESSOR. It is just the format of the clip, not the frame rate.
[Omar Estrada] “Should I render “RGB” or “10-bi tmaterial in High Precision YUV? “
8-bit YUV. DVCPRO HD is an 8-bit codec.
[Omar Estrada] “How do I back up the P2 Card Content in a G4?. “
The same way you do on ANY mac. Although with a Powerbook G4 there is a built in P2 slot.
You either drag and drop the entire contents of the P2 card to a separate folder (name the folder unique names…give them TAPE names, as these are the names that will show up in the REEL information in FCP)…or use offloading software like Shotput P2.
I have an entire workflow tutorial…P2 Workflow with FCP 6…you should watch it.
The P2 card drivers are located at https://www.panasonic.com/P2 in the DOWNLOADS area. And yes, the driver works on G4s. I use my PB for P2 offloading all the time.
[Omar Estrada] “I understood (and tried) copying/pasting the Content and txt files into a Hard Drive but it doesn´t work. “
Don’t do that…ever. No no no. Drag and drop isn’t all that reliable either…you want…need..Shotput Pro. https://www.imaginesoftware.com
[Omar Estrada] “Is there a free software for this? “
Well, yes, but it is pretty user UN-friendly. P2CMS by Panasonic…same link as above. But it doesn’t verify the copy…and I find that is important.
That is software for the P2 Store…a separate device for offloading P2. You don’t need that software unless you have that device.
[Omar Estrada] “m I missing something in the one offered by Panasonic? (I mean, do they have a P2 Store Manager that actually runs in PowerBook G4? “
[Omar Estrada] “Is it necessary to do this backing the actual content as Data from the P2 in a Hard Drive or the QT Wrapped archive produced by Log and Transfer is good enough? “
Do you capture your taped footage then throw away the tapes? You have the captured footage…why keep the tapes, right? You keep the original P2 backup…these are your master tapes. Back these up on two backup drives if you can, one if you can’t (drives are cheap). This way if your media drive fails, or if you need to access the files in another editing application, you have the originals.
