1080 RAM Preview CS3 vs 6.5 w Kona
Not sure why this is but when I try and do a RAM preview using my Kona 2 card on my Mac Dual 2.7 running 10.4.11 in AE CS3 I get 3 fps. When I turn off the output to the Kona I get 30fps. I called AJA tech support and they said it is because there is an RGB – YUV conversion going on, on the card. I was told even the Kona 3 on the latest Mac Pro will only play out 25fps or so in ram preview. Hmmm.
Just for yucks I opened AE 6.5 Professional and started a new 1080 comp. Put some filters on some stuff, made some fractal noise, put in some footage. The RAM preview plays out 30fps. Live downconvert to my NTSC mon. Not sure why my OLD COMPUTER and Kona card and OLD version of AE would give me 30fps playout and not the NEW system.
A good reason NOT to upgrade!
