1080 output to 720 with sharpening question
I have some 1080 footage that I want to export to 720
Should I:
a) use a 1080 sequence sharpen and export at 720
b) use a 1080 sequence sharpen then drop that sequence into a 720 sequence and resharpen at the new size and export
c) use a 720 sequence rescale the 1080 to 720 sharpen and export at 720With stills it is always recommended to sharpen the final resolution not the original image size so I am guessing c is correct but b looks good to me on my screen

it depends on what you feel looks better. Choice C is out the window because I think you degrades the image quality too much overall. As far sharpening with the other two methods you have to understand if you pre-sharpened, you have to sharpen more than what looks good because you lose some of it in the resizing. If you pre-sharpened, I suggest sharpening 1.5x to 2x more than what you thinks looks good visually.
Also, be aware of your output as televisions usually have an additional sharpening control, where computer monitors may not if you’re exporting the web. If it’s going to television consider going a little light handed.
