just checking with the other pro’s …

    once in a while i use a 2nd camera on a tripod for a B-roll.
since there’s no aditional cameraman i make a safe (wider than usual) shot.
everything was shot as 1080 25p. the idea was to edit in 576 25p so that i can zoom in (scale) a bit into the b-roll (and get rid of my safety margins around the talent).

the final product will be an digital 1024×576-file, so there’s some flexibility resolution-wise 😉

however in premiere pro (CS5.5) i’ve the impression that the shots are more soft/slightly out of focus than the material imported in a 1080-sequence. does this sound logic?

i thought i could zoom in on the 576-sequence as long as i don’t exceed the 100% scaling.

or has this to do with (unseen) focus-issues while recording?

    thanks in advance!

    Hi Ralph,

There could be a few things at play here. First, is the footage identical in field order or progressive?

You didn’t mention if that was also showing in the export or simply in preview. If you change the scaling in any way, you are going to soften the footage a bit since pixels have to be rearranged. That’s usually worse with interlaced footage.

Finally, at export time, make sure you select “Maximum quality”. This box will tell Premiere to render any scaled content more accurately.
