1080 cross conversion question
Posted by Aaron Neitz on January 14, 2008 at 9:46 pmI’m finishing a music video in 1080/23.98. In delivery specs they specifically want 1080/29.97
I see Kona 3 doesn’t have the option to do this conversion (23.98 to 29.97i). Would you simply add 3:2 in After Effects?

January 15, 2008 at 12:54 amOh yes it does. SImply change your video output in FCP to 1080i (8 or 10 bit).
Sweet huh?

yes it does set the output to 29.97 and the card adds the pulldown.

January 15, 2008 at 1:16 amAh, thanks lads, was not aware!
In all my HD travels, have never actually needed to make 1080i from 1080p. I don’t have a deck till tomorrow to experiment – is there anything I need to do timeline wise to layoff (23.98 fps to 29.97 HDCAM)

January 15, 2008 at 1:20 amNope. this conversion is done in hardware by the Kona.
It’s handy.
Be sure that your pulldown pattern is set up properly in your Kona control Panel.

January 16, 2008 at 4:14 pmI sometimes need to deliver several versions from a master. I prefer to master 1080Psf 23.98 to HDCam and do the conversions from the deck. 1080Psf 23.98 will let you go anywhere

January 18, 2008 at 4:20 pmNO Doug, you are insane! Why the eff would you EVER work in 23.98? You work in TV! Everything is base 30, don’t you know that?
Just kidding.
