I use Vegas 12 Pro. I have 1920×1080(60p frame rate) footage.

I plan to change the frame rate of the footage (event) to 29.97 within Vegas, in order to get slow motion.

I will render the project to Main Concept mp4 1920×1080 frame rate 29.97.

Should I set the Project frame rate to 29.970 (NTSC) or to 59.940 (Double NTSC)??

try both on a small clip…i think you need to set project at 59.940 imo.

It seems to be OK both ways. I just want to know what is the proper way to do it.

The project setting determines what you want your final file output to be. So if you want 30p (29.97) output files then use that.

As for SloMo. If you do not want Vegas to interpolate new frames for the slow mo you can get perfect SloMo to 1/2 speed with a 60p source outputting to 30p. Turn off smart frame resample to stop Vegas from resampling. You can do this because the source has more frames than your final output. At 1/2 speed Vegas is using all the 60p source frames but playing back at a slower speed.

If you output 60p and SloMo a 60p source file then Vegas *must* interpolate new frames because the source and output have the same number of frames.

I forgot to say that if you want more than 1/2 speed with a 60p source and 30p output, then you will want/need Vegas to resample. Vegas is not the best at this and you may want to look into tools like twixtor($) and such.
