Ok, I’m completely at loss here in PAL land..!
I’ve been searching ealier threads in this forum for the final gospel on 1080 25P support in FCP going in via HD-sdi, but I haven’t been able to find some definite answers.

We’ve just shot a project on Sony HDCAM 1080 25P. During setup for the shoot I wanted to test our camera settings and attempted to feed an HD-sdi signal to our Decklink HD Pro single link card into FCP. No matter which of the easy setups I tried, I wasn’t able to get a viewable signal into FCP. (4.5 HD) I tried modyfing them to the best of my ability but to no avail. I even tried the DVC PRO HD 720 25P to see if that would change anything, but no luck there either.

    My questions are:

1.) Which Easy setup do you guys use for uncompressed OR compressed 1080 25P in FCP ? 8bit or 10bit doesn’t matter… I just wan’t to see something coming in !
2.) Are there any general problems with 1080 25P support in either FCP or the Decklink cards ?
3.) Has anyone with hands-on experience in HDCAM 1080 25P fed an HD-SDI signal into FCP and digitized it using DVC PRO HD 720 25P as codec ? (It would be great as an offline codec.)

Thanks in advance for your patience 🙂

    Hi Steen,

First I can almost guarantee you have a cable problem, get real HD-SDI rated cables.

    Sony gear outputs 25p as 25PSF (50i).

    1, Blackmagic HDTV 1080 25Hz – 8 or 10 bit easy setup/

You should change the field dominence to NONE in the sequence setting, this will mean FCP only creates frames when rendering.

    2, No problems at all from 3700 HD-D5, HDW-750p, F900, F500.

    3, Don’t use the 720P setting use the Blackmagic HDTV 1080 25Hz – DVCPRO-HD easy setup.

As FCP 4.5 does not techincally support DVCPRO-HD at 25/50 some time based effects like duration changes are not smooth.

FCP5 has real DVCPRO-HD 25/50 support and 1440×1080 frame size.

    Thanks a million !!

I’ll try out your advice first thing in the morning ! Great to know about the cable thing. I had a sneakin’ hunch that standard bnc cables were not good enough for the job.

Man…. such a relief to get first hand experience! These forums and all you folks out there are lifesavers.

    Thanks again 🙂
