Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy 10.5/FCP Install question

  • 10.5/FCP Install question

I’m about to install 10.5 on my editing system. Two questions…

    – From what I’ve read, it’s now safe with FCP, is that correct?

    – I want to do a ‘clean’ install, so, should I first just install 10.5 to get the Time Machine feature, do a backup with that, then redo the 10.5 install ‘Clean’ as it’s easier with a Time-Machine backup?

    Any input is greatly appreciated.

Yes, I am running FCP 6.0.2 on OS 10.5.2

Seems like a waste of time to me. Just backup your files to the external drive, then erase your system drive, install Leopard, update fully, install all your apps from scratch, update fully. Then copy back your files.

Really? It seems like it will take way more time to re-load all the file AND the programs from scratch? If you guys really think this is faster, I’ll do it, but I thought the Time Machine backup is the way to go as it re-loads all your apps automatically.

Faster? No. Better…yes. You want to do what you can to ensure a proper working system…and this is the best way to go about it. When you change OS versions, it is best to install it from scratch, and install applications from scratch. Not fast, but more prone to stability. And stability is key…
