I am shooting a student film and I have a stage for performing mic tha I would like to try and use as a boom mic for my audio for my actors. I knwo you have to be on top of those things but they are unidirectional. I am going to be ina room the the POV no more tha 10 feet from any actor. Should I go with the state mic or just use the built in mics on the 100A? Would an SM 58 work for this?

    Thanks,

Can you FULLY describe (many more details) what are trying to DO, and the physical environment that you are shooting in.

What will the tape be used for?

Do you have CONTROL over the “event” or are you just documenting something that is happening independent of your recording?

Its a broad question, but the answer to what i think your question is, is:

An sm58 on a stick 18 inches above the mouth of a speaker will sound infinitely better than the built in mic from 10 feet away. Pretty much any mic that isnt defective will sound better at 18 inches than the built in mic at 10 feet.
