Flexible clip connections is huge. You can now swap clips in the primary storyline without taking the connected clips along if you want to.

I thought at first it was toggle, but you have to hold it down. Also in the Commands window it is called “Override connections”.

Also Apple just posted an article about updating safely:

Really? That’s strange. I could see it being a toggle if it were mapped to modifier key like say CMD+OPT or something, but it’s weird to hold down a regular keyboard character. I haven’t downloaded it yet because I’m at work, but I can’t wait to try it out later.

I guess holding down the key avoids forgetting whether the option is on or off and/or having to add some sort of indicator to tell you which mode you are in.

Persistent IN/OUTs now on clips. And the ability to select multiple ranges within a single clip. I’m not sure if I’ll use the multiple ranges much, but it’s still pretty cool.

So far, I keep coming back to the multichannel editing. It’s the feature I’ve been looking forward to for the longest I think. Couple of things I noticed:

You can’t change the channel configuration if you have a single channel selected in the timeline (makes sense)

If you select the clip and change the channel configuration, it essentially resets the audio and anything you did to individual channels is wiped away. This also makes sense, but is a bit of a gotcha.

Opening the audio components automatically places the cursor in range selection mode for the audio channels only. This is a nice time saver since you don’t have to select the tool to get on with editing individual audio channels.

Tracks that have been turned off in the inspector for a clip do not show up as audio components in the timeline. However, if you then turn them on, they will appear.

Selecting a range and hitting delete is analogous to the “disable” command. It’s not deleting audio in that range, its merely disabling it. This is important because if you then hit disable (V) for the entire channel, it will reset any deletion edits you’ve made to the channel. Therefore, if you want to mute a section of a track but you also want the ability to disable a channel temporarily while editing, you’re better off defining a range and dragging the volume down. Keyframed volume adjustments are not affected when the disable command is used.
