£1000 budget – which camera for chromakey
Hi everyone,
I know this isn’t strictly After Effects, but it’s to use with AE CS3 so…
We’re coming to the end of the budget year and I can justify pushing what money we have left towards buying a camcorder for the purposes of post-production chromakey.
We have several 3CCD Panasonics (NV-GS500) and a couple of Canon XM2s and a decent greenscreen studio – and for the kids this setup works well (we generally live key using an Edirol LVS400).
I occasionally struggle to pull a decent post-key, and the next thing I’ve set my sights on would be a camcorder that shoots progressive as opposed to interlaced.
Is this the right thing to focus on and is there anything out there for the money I have (£1000)?

Fields have absolutely nothing to do with how well you can pull a key. Color resolution is your enemy. If you’re using DV or (even worse) HDV cameras, they’re just tossing away tons of color information.
Someone else asked about a good camera for chromakeying work two days ago. They’ve recieved a few helpful answers.
