10 Bit Banding?
Hi Everybody!
I’m working with some Red Camera footage and seeing quite a bit of banding in the image, specifically in the subtle gradations of light on the walls.
I’m using RedRushes to convert the Red footage. Color Space is “Camera RGB”. Gamma Space is “REDlog” Outputting 4:2:2 10Bit QT movies.
In FCP, I’m cutting on an Uncompressed 10Bit 4:2:2 timeline and the Item Properties of the clip does indeed say that it’s a 10 bit file.
Is there something wrong with my workflow? Any ideas on where the banding is coming from?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Color & Gamma should match and both be “RED SPACE”
At least that was the advice of a RED D.I.T. on a shoot
I did last summer.also does it band if you bring it into a 16-bit comp in After Effects?

The banding in such cases is usually a display artifact from how FCP displays 10bit data on an 8bit monitor.

Graeme, I can see banding and no-banding (8bit / 10bit)
on my Sony professional monitor.one is analog component, the other is SDI.
both can show a broken gradient (8-bit) or an intact one (10-bit)
does it depend on the monitor?
