Hello everyone, I’m new to the forum and an amateur in the field. I have an issue that I’ve dealt with in the past and it has unfortunately come back up again. I have a concert project where I was using my Sony hvr-z5u and the other cam that we were borrowing from a local station was a dsr model I believe that shoots in 4:3 which i wasn’t aware of. The problem as you have probably already guessed is the aspect difference. I read a thread where someone mentioned to import the footage as 4:3, export it as widescreen and import it into a widescreen project, didn’t work. The dsr is all closeup footage, and I was hoping not to stretch it, but I’m afraid it will end up slightly distorted in the end.
The other part of the problem I was having was during the transitions of an hvr model and a Panasonic handy cam during a trial run a year back. Once again the aspect ratio was different, but in the end the project stayed in 4:3. After rendering the video transitions and exporting as avi, the size of the whole footage shrunk during the transitions and returned to normal afterward. Out of the two songs they wanted done from the set, only one had the problem. I spent hours trying to fix it, started new projects with different settings with no avail.
Any help on these two issues is greatly appreciated

    Hi Jason,

Why not just stick to a 4:3 project? Then you have a little bit of leeway on manipulating the 16:9 footage. In order to avoid the sizing difference on transitions try stretching your 4:3 video to 102.5 or 103% to fill the frame.

Sorry for the late reply, I have finally set some decent time into trying at it again. I believe that you responded to both of my issues with that post, but even when i start a 4:3 project and import both pieces of footage, I still see a problem in aspect size between the camera. Does this mean that I will have to start over and re capture the wide screen footage as 4:3? Also as for the transition problem…No idea what I’m doing differently, but the picture size is not shrinking during the transitions on this project
