1 minute Rotoscoped footage taking 48 hours to render?
Hi,
I’m making a music video for college in which the talent is walking with a trail effect behind him. To achieve this I spent a while rotoscoping 2000+ frames and now want to render it. I’ve tried rendering the file in various different formats and on different computers with bigger memory and still it takes 48 hours to render.
The render time doesn’t go down. It just slowly goes up. I’ve spent many days and nights leaving my laptop on and it just pauses and increases the time.
Any help on alternatives to rendering the footage or if I can export the file to another program or anything would be most appreciated.

Can you give a more detailed description of what’s going on in the comp you’re rendering? Are you using any effects? What is the source footage? What resolution is the source footage and composition? Are there any footage items other than the rotoscoped sequence?

It’s just a minute long sequence in black and white with blur and echo effects on the middle layer and rotoscope on the top layer and the original video on the bottom layer. The video is in 1080p.

If you’re actually using more than one echo effect that could definitely be causing trouble.

I’d render out my rotoscope first(prerender) then bring that in for the echo treatment…

I’ve just tried rendering the rotoscope layer alone using the alpha channel but still it’s taking way too long for a minutes worth of footage. It says “rotoscope propogating” then counts from 1 to [which ever frame its on] so by the end it’ll have to count up from 1 to 1500. It’s taking around 30mins to an hour to render ONE frame. One out of 1500, this is ridiculous.
Is there any other solutions? Any other way I can render it out? I have important deadlines to meet and will fail if I don’t get this done.

This is an intriguing mystery. If you can make this 1 minute clip downloadable I will see how it does on my system, as a point of comparison to help figure out whats up.
