  • 1 frame offset in Final Cut Pro

    Hi,

    when using the edit to tape function in final cut pro I’m finding that the video is laying back on to the tape a single frame early. So, does anyone know how to force things to layback a frame late to make up for this, or even better, what the problem is and how to fix this? I’m using the most up to date version of Final Cut bar Studio 2, and playing out via a Decklink HD Extreme card which is back up to date with drivers.

    A quick fix will do fine for me, but if anyone does know how to fix the problem properly that would be grand.

    Many thanks,

    Michael

    A/V devices -> device control -> edit -> +1 to playback offset.

    What Decklink driver are you using? If you are ETT onto digibeta and are using a driver version 6.4 or earlier your problem was fixed. Update to 6.6.2 which is the most current driver to date.

    I’m using 6.6.2. The problem actually started after updating, although I’m not sure if it was straight away or not.

    I’m using Final Cut 5.1.4, on a mac with a 2 x 3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor, 5GB of Ram and running OS X 10.4.11

    I’ve just inherited this set-up from the previous online editor here, and being new to the job am still finding my feet, so consider no advice too obvious!

    Thanks!

    So doing what Aaron suggested and adding a frame to the playback offset didn’t work?

    Hi, sorry about the delayed reply.

    After playing with the frame offset it appears to be playing out correctly. Thank you everyone for your help with this! My frame offset appeared to be on +5, I’ve found that +4 gets me the results I want. Is it normal to have an offset like this? It seems strange.

    Still, many thanks, you’ve saved regional television in the Westcountry for me!

    After testing I found that Decklink is +4 on the frame offset so you are right on target.

    Hi,

    it worked for a bit, but I’ve had to change it to +6 for it to work now, and for some reason my insert edits have started to over-run by about 5 seconds, wiping black over the area after the out point.

    Technology hates me!
