    Hello most intelligent ones…

I have been coming up to speed on PPro and dumping Sony Vegas.

The main thing that’s driving me nuts is:

In AE, when I take my footage and add a levels and curves to it, it looks pretty darn good.

In PP, I do the same thing and do not get the same results.

To be more succinct, I am just adding a levels effect, moving the left and right sliders in to lose the “no data” areas, adjusting the center slider a bit. Then I add a curves effect, and grab the bottom of the RGB curve and move it to the right a bit.

This gives me excellent results in AE, but in PP, shouldn’t this work and act the same?

And since I’m on a roll here, what’s the keyboard command to split a clip, like the “S” command in vegas. 🙂

Again, thank you for you time and help. Whenever I get can’t seem to get an answer after days of searching the web, you guys always come through!

    Best,

    Kevin

The Levels effect in AE and the Levels effect in Premiere are not the same thing. In Premiere, the Luma Corrector effect (or the levels control on the Fast Color Corrector) is closer to how the Levels effect in AE works. Give that a shot.

And split clip in Premiere is Control+K (split on active tracks) and Shift+Control+K (split across all tracks).

Man! Control-K Split clip, and then the JKL commands…hello and thank you!

As far as color correction, thank you again!

I finally backed everything off and re-thought this.

I ended up using the Reference Monitor and the YC Waveform view, and only the CURVES effect in PPro, and comparing the AE color correction to what I was ending up with in PPro.

I not only ended up with the look I want, but it’s as good or better than in AE – without having to use AE, and no separate rendering.

So, thank you Mike for sparking this and having me LOOK at how I was doing color correction.

    Regards,

    Kevin

    No problem.

Oh, and if you still want to use S as split clip, don’t forget you can set custom keyboard shortcuts!

Oh man…now I just really dumped my Sony Vegas Pro. Apologies to any Sony Vegas Pro people.

    Thanks again Mike!

    Kevin
