A Look at Time Base Correctors – Tech Talk with Marc Franklin

Marc Franklin, Creative COW’s Tape-to-Digital forum moderator, talks about a very important piece of gear for the video archiving business: the time base corrector or “TBC.” These devices, some stand alone and some built into VTRs / VCRs, stabilize the video being output to your digital encoder.

In the “old analog days” of production and post-production, video tapes being played back to air or in a linear editing bay, needed to pass through a TBC, before going into a video switcher to mix with live shots or just editing on an A/B roll edit system.

This video goes through different kinds of TBCs, and some of the features and their uses.
