Vegas Pro 9 preview skipping on Asus G73
I just recently picked up an Asus G73 so I could capture and edit 720p footage with my Hauppauge. I have been trying to adjust settings for days now to get a decent playback.
I have disabled Adjust Size and Quality for Optimal Playback. As well as matching the settings to my source file.
No matter what my preview skips horribly. I am not sure why this is happening. The laptop is more than capable.

What type of files are coming out of the Hauppauge? It may be that Vegas is not optimised for these formats.

You want to enable Adjust Size and Quality for Optimal Playback in order to get… “Optimal Playback”.
The laptop is more than capable.
Actually it’s not. In fact, it’s grossly underpowered for the task. The Core i7 in your laptop is only 1.6GHz and Sony recommend at least a 2.8Ghz Dual Core for HD editing.
What most people don’t understand is that unless you have a task that can be multi-threaded, only one CPU is going to be used. Vegas playback is not multi-threaded (actually it probably uses two threads, one for audio and one for video but there is only one video thread) so only a single 1.6Ghz core is being used for video playback which is no where near enough power for HD.
