DVD Architect chapter selection problem
Hello,
I have had a problem with DVD Architect for ages now and can’t seem to find a solution…
A typical DVD Architect project that i produce will have around 8 individually rendered files on it (often a wedding), all sitting behind a menu that I designed myself. Each rendered file represents a chapter on the menu. On a few occasions i need to also add chapter markers within one of the files (eg – I render all of the wedding speeches as one file but then add markers for the start of each speaker and have that marker link to a button on the main menu). This is where one of the problems start…
I’ve noticed that the ‘next’ function doesn’t work once you get to the last chapter of one of these ‘split’ chapters. Ie the viewer will be watching the last speaker but wants to go to the next chapter but can’t. All they can do is fast forward to the end of that bit or go back to the menu. This isn’t the case when you watching in Preview mode from Architect and only seems to be a problem when watching the final DVD. ‘Next’ works for all the other chapters that haven’t had markers added.
The other problem is to do with the ‘previous’ button which doesn’t want to work at all, for all the chapters. The only thing that happens when you press previous is it takes to to the start of the chapter that you are currently on. Once again, it seems fine when watching it from the preview mode, but not fine from the final DVD.
I’ve tried playing around with all the navigation and action settings but can’t get it either to work.
Is it all to do with the fact that all my files are individual ones? Do i really need to render all the files on one Vegas timeline to make one file?? I’ve got a feeling that it’s all to do with the distinction between chapters and scenes.
Or should i could split the speeches chapter down and render each speaker’s bit seperately. This still won’t get rid of the ‘previous’ problem though.
I hope someone can help me with this one. I can email the architect file over to anyone who might want to have a look (obviously without the media files).

BINGO! Your problem is that Chapters and markers WITHIN a single file. Because you have multiple files, chapter navigation will never work properly. You need to render one large file if you want chapters to navigate forward and backward correctly.

No. This will only make it worse. You need to make the wedding one long movie.

No need to see the project. If you are working on these as separate Vegas projects and that’s why you render them separately then here’s a tip. If you are using Vegas Pro, drop all of your projects into one master project (as nested projects) and render the whole thing as one file. This will eliminate having to render each one separately.

I have Pro, and have just tried the nested way but for some reason vegas crashes around 8% into the render because of an ‘exception’! I use nested projects quite often in smaller commercial jobs, where films are normally only 10 mins long, but have never tried to render 1.5 hours of nested projects before – computer doesn’t seem to like it. Anyway, that’s another problem for another forum (maybe). It will probably all be ok tomorrow, such is the nature of computers…
