March 17, 2010 at 4:01 pmIt is possible that the pixel aspect ratio of the WMV files is not be interpreted correctly if it’s something other than 1.000. Right-click on the event, go to the Media tab and change the Pixel Aspect Ratio of the file to match the real ratio that the file was render as.

March 17, 2010 at 6:14 pmYou’re welcome. There are a several places that things can go wrong with aspect ratios but always make sure that Vegas is interpreting your media correctly first. Then check your project settings, and finally check your render settings. All 3 of those must be correct for the aspect to be correct.

If you mean text that moves with the camera, this can be done with a plug-in for Vegas like Boris FX which has Motion Tracking. You could try and keyframe it by hand in Vegas alone but it would be very tedious (but it is possible using 3D Track Motion). Otherwise most people would do that in After Effects. Having a Mac has nothing to do with it.

March 18, 2010 at 1:18 amto float text, just choose left in your text position and at end of key frame choose right. It plays across your screen. Fade end in and out and it “floats”

March 18, 2010 at 2:31 amhi john, thanks again. i figured it was probably a plug in. i have seen some nice vids where the text moves across the bottom of the screen (for example) while the video does it’s separate thing. was just curious. i will try not to bombard you with questions :o)

March 18, 2010 at 9:49 amAs Mark said, if you just want the text to move, that can easily be done with keyframes right in the Text Generator window. Perhaps if you could point us to a video that does exactly what you want we could give you more specific instructions. I assumed you meant the 3D floating text that is so popular on TV commercials these days. But simply moving text across the screen is trivial and requires no other plug-ins, just use keyframes.

My first suggestion would have been to make sure that the camera you buy works with your editing software BEFORE you buy it! For example, I bought a Kodak Zi8 instead of a Flip because the Zi8 has no issues in Vegas while the Flip does. It’s important to make sure that your entire production pipeline works before you start making purchases.
Now that you’ve bought it. Open the file in Quicktime Player and use Ctrl+I to open the inspector and see what audio codec it uses. Then make sure that the audio codec is installed on your system. If it is and Vegas still doesn’t recognize the audio then you’ll need to convert all the video you shoot into a format that Vegas can edit or bring the camera back for a refund. (lesson learned).
Also make sure this is not a Quicktime issue. If you have any version of Vegas prior to Vegas Pro 9.0d you should be using Quicktime 7.6.2 or earlier.
