  • Vegas 9.0c crashes after working flawlwssly for 6 weeks.

    Hi everyone,

I have an i7 2.66 GHz on an ASUS (P6x58D) board with 12 GB of RAM Windows 7 64 bit and Vegas 9.0c 64 bit.

I built the system in January and it functioned flawlessly. I had a long weekend and this Monday Vegas would lock-up after a variable amount of time, always < 5 minutes. Not a single Windows error event was generated and Windows is completely unresponsive (to the Vegas window), it has to be terminated through Task manager. I have de-installed Vegas/virus/malware/firewall and system restored back to last week - still same problem. 32 bit Vegas (along with everything else) works fine. Any help is appreciated, Jeff

    1. This doesn’t sound like the answer based on the fact that other programs and windows is still working, but make sure to clean out your system regularly (rid it of dust).

    2. You did not mention your source footage type or what you were doing when it would lock up. Details are invaluable when troubleshooting.

    3. It could be an effect you are applying. Have you noticed any common denominator when the window actually locks up?

    Jeremy, thanks for your reply,

The system was also built 6 weeks ago so it should be clean. The key temperatures are very good for this machine.

Sometimes Vegas locks up before I add footage or even generated media. I am beginning to suspect Windows update did something.

I installed 9.0c(64) on a virtual machine and had similar results, I did however get an error message:

    Problem Description
    Application Name: Vegas Pro
    Application Version: Version 9.0c (Build 895) 64-bit
    Problem: Unmanaged Exception (0xc0000005)
    Fault Module: C:\Program Files\Sony\Vegas Pro 9.0\vegas90k.dll
    Fault Address: 0x00000001801CBA88
    Fault Offset: 0x00000000001CBA88

    Fault Process Details
    Process Path: C:\Program Files\Sony\Vegas Pro 9.0\vegas90.exe
    Process Version: Version 9.0c (Build 895) 64-bit
    Process Description: Vegas Pro
Process Image Date: 2009-10-26 (Mon Oct 26) 16:34:26

I have created a dump in task manager and will be going over it sometime later. Until then, or a genius fix from someone on this board, I will be using 32 bit.

Any other help is very welcome,

    Jeff

I have the same issue of vegas 9 working great on a fairly new i7 for weeks & now either locks up or crashes with a exception fault when attempting to render anything.

crashes with any codec often after some time into rendering.

rebuilt the system to try to figure out whats causing it, took it back to the plain old OS with nothing else installed other then the latest updates & still it crashes sometimes even to a blue screen doing a memory dump.

I guess the next step will be doing the install again with no updates & see for sure if its that or some kind of hardware issue.
