  renaming files

  1. Is there a simple way to batch rename clips in Vegas?

  2. I use a Sony program to download AVCHD clips. The program is called PMB. Nice viewing program but it names the files something awful and there doesn’t seem to be a way to rename using the program.
  One clip will have a file name 20090907111643.m2ts and the very next clip has 200909071117000.m2ts. Not even sequential because it uses a almost undecipherable date as a file name. It’s a mess. Any suggestions?

  point 1-QUIT USING THAT CRAP software to ingest. 🙂
  Seriously.
  Honest. It’s garbage, and you don’t need it anyway.
  Vegas can edit straight from the stream card.
  You can batch rename in Windows. Select the files, right click to choose the file/rename in the Explorer. It’ll append the files with a 1, 2, 3, etc when you give the first file a new name.

  My absolute favorite rename program is Bulk Rename Utility. It loads as a shell extension so you can right-click on a folder and select “Bulk Rename” and it will open with all of the files in the folder. You can then select the ones you want to affect and add prefixes and suffixes and key parts of the name and add new stuff and just about anything you can think of. Very handy for renaming files in a sequence.
