Avi is black when accelerated
Hello!
I’m hoping that someone can help me _(._.)_
When I’m editing videos on Sony Vegas quite a few of my avis are black once I accerate them. I’m guessing that I’m lacking a codec but I really don’t know which one it could be.
I would be really grateful if anyone could give me a hint which codec could be responsible for that – especially if it isn’t a codec pack since I already have that on my pc and I really don’t want to install another codec pack on top of the one I already have.

You can use a program like GSpot to identify the codec:

What do you mean by “accelerate” them? How? Are you adding a Velocity Envelope? Are you changing the Playback Rate? What version of Vegas are you using?
If the video is fine before you speed it up then you have the proper codec. It could be a bug in Vegas or a codec that Vegas doesn’t work well with (like DivX or Xvid).

I’m using Sony Vegas 8 Pro. If I use the video without any editing it works just fine. But as soon as I use an velocity envelope and speed it up to higher than 125% the screen gets black :7
That’s pretty unfortunate, though, since I make AMVs and I need to speed up clips to get the timing right >.<

are they rendering black, or merely displaying black during render?
As JR said, it’s very possible that you’ve got a codec issue where the frames can’t be decoded fast enough to display, but they should render OK.
you might try setting your Dynamic RAM to zero and see if that makes any difference. Play with preview settings as well.

That’s your problem then. I’ll say it again, Vegas does not work well with DivX or Xvid. Convert the files to MJPEG, or Huffyuv, or Lagarith, or any intraframe codec. Just don’t use Xvid or DivX.

Thanks for the tipp I’ll definitely do that in the future.
Problem is just that I’ve already made half of a video with just those clips – with no complications at all. Then I had to reformat my pc, install vegas again and now it doesn’t work properly anymore. So frustrating :7
