  • Capturing HDR-HC1E HDV high CPU problem (quad core)

I am having problems capturing HDV from a Sony HDR-HC1E Camcorder. I am using the latest version of Vegas. My processor is a ‘AMD Phenom II X4 940 3GHz 6MB L3 Cache’ and I have 1.7GB of memory. I have HDV scene split turned on (I tend to just digitize all the tapes). CPU on one of the CPUs is close to 100% and another around 50%.

What is happening is after a while I am getting lots of short clips as there are lots of erroneous scene splits happen. Defragging seems to help but I think this may be a red heading.

It seems odd capture uses lots of CPU as I thought it was simply doing data stream transfer.

Any help, insight etc. gratefully accepted.

Have you tried using another capture program like HDVSplit? The Sony HDV capture utility has a nasty habit of making random scene splits. I’ve had it happen to me right in the middle of a long shot. It could be something with your PC or it could just be buggy capture code. In general the HDV capture works fine so don’t rule out something on your PC. You don’t seem to have a lot of memory for a quad core so I wonder if it’s low on memory?

I too experienced issues with the built in capture in Vegas.. and switched to HDVsplit. I like how HDVSplit is able to stamp the date time info into each file’s name that is created.
