Disappearing video clips in DVD Architect Pro 5. build 119
I have been assembling a bunch of short clips to demonstrate various film ideas (master short, POV, etc.). A total of 18 short clips. But now the first nine clips will play audio only. These are all avi clips from Vegas.
None of these clips is longer than 3 minutes.Have I exceeded the total limit of space? Doesn’t Vegas automatically compress if necessary to fit everything in?

Well I think I found the problem: it appears that Version 5 of DVD Architect will let you insert more than 1 extra page of menus, but when you do it renders the first pages inoperable. As long as you can cram your menu onto two pages you are OK. Or so it seems.

Why not just add all the media files and then create only one menu page with the links to all of them? Sounds like it would be a lot easier. Unless you are spending time to make the DVD portion on par with your film work. Otherwise you should be able to do as you stated without a hitch. It should not render you pages inop with no warnings before rendering. If I am missing the mark please let me know.

Rick, I recently finished a Christmas concert and had the main menu page plus two separate submenu pages of links (24 in all).
This was all done in DVDA 5 so I know that it does work. -
There is a limit to how many links you can have on one page but I don’t recall the number. If you exceed the mount DVDA will prompt you and tell you to add another page.

I just did a quick test and had no problems with 48 links on a single page.

Very strange. I seem to be the only person having this problem. I just found it’s not the number of menu pages that count. It’s the number of clips. I am limited to seven. When I add an 8th, the first clip no longer renders video. A ninth, and the second clip goes black. Mystery.
Working solution, make multiple DVDs with no more than 7 clips per DVD. Bummer.

Rick, IMO you’re going about this the wrong way.
Drop all your clips onto a Vegas timeline, place a marker at the beginning of each one and render it out as a single MPEG-2 and AC-3 stream.
If it’s under 70 min. long, use a custom CBR setting of 8,000,000 for the MPEG-2 stream.
Anything longer and you’ll need to use a bitrate calculator.
Then follow the steps I outlined in the DVD scene selection markers as in comm. DVDs thread.
Ignore the fact that I repeated some information twice 🙂
I guarantee that if you follow these steps, you’ll be able to do exactly what you want. -
Thank you very much, Mike. I will print out and mark your excellent advice for the next round. I am currently on the last of 5 DVDs with my clips. Next time I will be better educated and as a consequence, “smarter.”

I agree with Mike about adding chapters and making it all one clip but I have never had the problem you are experiencing and I have used far more than 9 clips. I’ve not read about this limitation either so it makes me curious as to how you are setting up your pages.

I rendered each clip out as an AVI clip. In DVD Architect I selected the “movie” theme. Then in explorer clicked on each clip, one by one, and dragged it onto the first page. When the page was full, I inserted a second menu page. Once past 7 clips, the earlier ones would no longer “render.”
