Vaast Reelpak question
Posted by Carl Battreall on January 11, 2010 at 9:21 pmI purchased the whole set. My question is, if I apply one of these to my project will it stay in “legal” broadcast colors? Will it clamp down anything that wasn’t “legal”?
Thanks,

January 11, 2010 at 9:38 pmThe ReelPaks are “film looks”. They use Vegas plug-ins to alter the “look” of your video. If your source had illegal levels, they may still be illegal depending on the look that you used. The ReelPaks don’t do any clamping of their own. You have full control of the plug-ins once they are applied. It’s up to you to make your production broadcast safe.

January 11, 2010 at 9:51 pmThanks John, Though, that was the answer I didn’t want to hear:)I would assume I should “clamp” things down after I apply the “look” I want?
Here is the scenario, I am editing in the field, no chance of having access to any calibrated monitors, especially no broadcast monitors. I was hoping I could add one of the film looks and then just send it to my client, then I would know what they are getting (visually). What about adding a “look” then throwing Broadcast Colors on it? that should keep things looking “correct” and still have a nice visual feel.

January 12, 2010 at 12:27 amYou have a waveform monitor in Vegas. You could check levels with that. Adding the Broadcast Safe plug-in after the Reelpak “look” will keep thing safe.
