Batch Render Subclips
I have a project with several subclips. I’d like to render the subclips so i don’t need to load the source media every time a project loads. My subclip might be 5 seconds, and the source media is 5 minutes long.
When I get to a point where i’m loading 20 hours of source media in order to organize my subclips, performance gets sketchy.
I’m a developer – so i’m interested in seeing if there’s a scripting option that may get me 90% there – i want to “Batch Render All Subclips” in the timeline in a given format – i honestly don’t care how they’re named.

You aren’t the first person to have gotten into the “Subbie-Render” task request.
It would be real neat if SCS(Sony Creative Software) could get to recognise that we like using Subbies and consequently wish to render them – “as is”. Until somebody contradicts me, Subbies can not be rendered as a batch process, unlike Regions, which can. Sure, I can/could/have used the SONY Batch Render Regions Script. I have Ultimate S Pro4 and there I can do all many of things once the Events are Regions or have Markers. Same goes for Excalibur. But getting Subbies to be recognised as an entity then to be Rendered? Nope.
OK, will this do yer?
For using existing VP9 tools:
1] Make a COPY of your existing Project veg
2] Delete ALL Tracks
3] Select Subbies from Project Media using the “SEARCH Media Bins ” tool and use the word “Sub”.
4] Convert “Search” to a BIN
5] Go to New Bin and drag Subbies to Timeline
6] Now convert ALL subbies on timeline to Regions – Click Event(sub) Hit R – next Event Hit R . . . . and so on
. .and after ALL this use the SONY
7] Batch Render Script and select Regions
You will now have rendered Subbies.
And yes, some of this process is made less painful using UliSPRo4 (marvellous!) or Excalibur or some free scripts that do some of the converting of Events to Regions, but fundamentally, it would be neat if SCS would allow Subbies to be part of the Region Family? Your question here, once again flags up what the User wants determined.
I just looked at VASST’s Production Assistant and, although packed full of tools, I can’t readily see that which you are wanting to achieve. But I am more than ready to be put right on that too?
BTW1, I also did a cursory search on the main SONY Vegas site for render subbies, and that was bleak and only came back me with the need to firstly convert to Regions.
BTW2, I have Excalibur and Ultimate S Pro4 and Production Assistant. If Render Subclips is part of these Tools I know I will be put right!

Here’s what I’d do. Select all the subclips and add them to the timeline. They’ll all be separate clips at that time. Then use a script to add regions around each subclip. Finally use a script to render the regions. The scripts Grazie mentions can do that for you.

Thanks for the quick responses. If I read it correctly, there isn’t a script to automate the marking of regions – or is there?
If there is a script as you describe, this would work for me – (1) Automatically mark each subclip in the timeline as a region and then (2) render all regions
now the next question – where do i find these 2 scripts?

As Grazie said, Excalibur and Ultimate S can both do both of those tasks.

I have to buy additional software to do this? That’s a bummer. Is there no way to write your own script to assign regions to all the subclips in a timeline? sorry if this is a dumb question. I just don’t want to pay $100 for a tool which i know nothing about and will use only for this single purpose (until i find out how valuable it is i’m sure).
