  No video, just sound

  I am trying to create some fanmovies for TV shows. When I import the file, I can’t see the movie in the preview.
  Some other files work, but these won’t. Do I need to convert them to some other format? (They’re just .avi files, but you need VLC, i.e. special codecs to play them)

  The files are downloaded btw.

  When I import them and drag them to the timeline I don’t get the ‘Building peaks’. I don’t see a preview. When I cut in it and save the project all I get is a file with sound.
  Idk how I can fix this, I’m really looking forward to making some clips.

  You can use a program like GSPOT to determine the codec of these videos. Which codec is it?

  First of all thank you very much for replying.

  I downloaded the program, and I’m not completely sure how to use it, but I’ve just added the file and at the top right of the screen it says:

  Codec: XVID
  Name: XviD ISO MPEG-4

  At the left it also says Avi v1.0
  The rest is unrelated to codecs

  Are you working on Vegas-64bit? Then you should convert the files to files with the Lagarith codec. Otherwise you can also convert to e.g. DV-avi.

  I had to install the XviD codecs. Guess that was pretty logical.
