Thanks in advance for helping me on this..
I have an Asus Notebook, core2duo,and i`m a vegas user for more than a year, i have been using my precious Vegas8.
I had some issues with viruses, and i had to reformat mi PC. When i try to reinstall Vegas it stop on the very first screen and block´s the PC (after registering, its the start screen). Even the task manager cannot stop the process with the blocked Vegas. And the same its happening to Premier CS4 that a friend just lend me to check if it was Vegas itself. Its not opening and freezes on “Initializing external monitoring”.. Help
    (i have Vista,SP2)

Try installing as administrator. Right click & run as administrator on the drop down box.

Kris, thanks for the response, but allready done (administrator thing) i believe its the computer and something about “external monitoring”, not the software.. 🙁

    Hi Carlos.

I am assuming you did a C:\format, and wiped the drive completely clean, so as to be sure to wipe the virus completely out.

This may be a long shot, but have you checked the disk’s integrity?I.e., can you try running Checkdisk?

    I hope that helps.

Out of curiosity, was this ever resolved? And if so, how?

I have intermittent freezes while “initializing external monitoring” in 9.0d and 9.0e during program startup. They seem to only happen if the program has been closed and then re-opened, or more often when I open a second instance. The program does eventually finish initializing but it can take several minutes.

I have a second monitor I use as an external monitor and I also have a firewire device but it does not provide output. Maybe Vegas gets confused and tries to initialize my F/W device for output? I haven’t tried pulling the plug when Vegas freezes.
