At some point (I forget if it was Vegas 8) the “drawing” part seem to have broken but I think it is still averaging the color correctly.

I noticed that too. With DV footage, the keyer in Vegas is not usable IMHO. If you put a chroma blur, set to medium before the chromakey plugin in the chain, It really smoothes out the jagged edges. With HDV and good lighting, maybe a magenta backlight,(Since there’s no spill suppresor in Vegas’s keyer) it can work fairly well. I would us Ultra or Keylight for chromakeying anything. Danny

Thx – Is it averaging over the color area?

Thx – Do I need to use the Blur effect or just to use the blur which is P/O the chroma key effect?

Joe, What Danny is referring to is adding the Sony Chroma Blur FX just prior to the Chroma Keyer in the FX chain. Here is a tutorial by Keith Kolbo that shows you the technique:

Chroma Blur and Chroma Keying in Sony Vegas® Software

It really smooths out the edges for DV work.
