    Hello,
I have just ordered the Action Essentials 2 composite dvd,
while i have used basic stuff like muzzle flash and blood splatter wit hsome success, I still find the composites look a bit transparent, I am changing the composite mode to add while keeping the original plate as source alpha.
My second query regards use of masking, in the tutorial, they use After effects to create an explosion coming out of a doorway, after adding the light effects and smoke, it looks very realistic, and the have cut into the plate to actually make the fire look like it is actually coming out of the doorway, whereas my attempt just looks stuck on, do I need After Effects to creat the 3D illusion or can Vegas do the job as good ?

    Thanks

    Glenn

Hi Glenn, You can do the same thing in Vegas; no need for After Effects. Just duplicate your footage onto another track above you base footage and go into the Pan/Crop tool and enable the Mask checkbox. Then draw around the object that you want to stay in the foreground with the pen tool just like they did in After Effects. Finally, place your explosion footage between the two tracks. You can cut as many layers as you want.

Point me to the tutorial that you watched on AE and I’ll see if I can so a similar one for Vegas since I use both AE and Vegas I should be able to get close.

That would really be cool. I’ve been wondering how to use the Mask tool.

    Thanks John,
Unfortunatly the demo I have seen comes with the downloadable started pack you can get while you wait for the DVD to arrive, I have however found a tutorial from the set, it looks fantastic how you can create the 3D look, with the bus.
Please, i would love to see what Vegas can do as ooposed to seeing every tutorial done in AFX.

    Thanks for your help

    Best wishes
