  audio render / crashing

  I recently installed a new in-the-box (disc) copy of movie studio 9 on a pc w/ XP Professional. It ‘s a refurb computer w/ an old version of XP; it had windows media player 9.

  Before I even installed Vegas, I installed numerous (about 40) windows updates including XP SP 2 & 3 and the latest McAfee suite. It was about a week before I finally installed Vegas

  I was going along fine for a few days editing my movie project (no HD clips) until it started freezing up and then out an out crashing.

  I did some digging online and read updates to 9.0 were availible which might help w/ too much crashing. I installed movie studio 9.0b. This helped some but still had crashing.

  I ultimatley completed my editing and went to render… “Disk Images” (about 2 GB) rendered fine w/ no crashes. But audio didn’t even make it past 2% before an error message listing WRITE and other audio references appeared.

  To make a long story short, I opened a ticket w/ Sony Support. After 3 different sessions, including reinstalls, they could not fix my issue. Some where far down in the in the error message it lists “kernel32.” The Sony tech said that’s a windows issue, at which point they could offer no other solutions.

  To close, Sometime in the later part of my editing phase, I got a prompt to upgrade to windows media player 11, which I did. I’m finding out media player 9 & 11 are quite different and that some codecs may not transfer to 11, etc.

  Would this cause my any issues w/ my audio rendering?

  Thinking it was windows on that machine, I ultimately decided to install 9.0b on another computer and import my movie to try the audio render. No dice. Same error message.

  Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated as I cannot even watch the project now for more than 1 minute in edit mode w/ out it crashing.

  While I don’t think the windows media player is your problem, I do remember that WMP 11 did cause serious problems for me. I don’t remember what those problems were, but I scrambled to get the machine back to WMP 10. I still refuse to install any upgrade to WMP.

  You didn’t tell us what the format of the audio/video is, and what you are trying to render it to. That might supply a clue.

  Thanks Bob,

  the project includes mpegs and jpegs, plus one avi file. Audio includes mp3 music tracks & wav files. The latter are from a voice recorder.

  I selected dvd format after clickig “make movie,” and vegas support directed me to render the audio to wav.

  Another error message that I forgot to mention happened just once upon opening the program. It said I was missing some plug-ins.

  But the error that always appears reads:
