  about to buy new Nehalem mac pro 8 core 16g for AE – any performance issues?

  I am thinking about getting the new “nehalem” proccessor that is supposed to be faster then the previous quad processors. I am wondering if anyone is currently using this set up with their AE and if so, how is the performance? I would like to get the 8 core with 16gigs of ram.

  I have read several times on this forum about AE having problems with the 8 core processors? are they mostly running on mac OS or on bootcamp with Vista SP1 that are having the problems?

  Does CS4 work faster then CS3 on the new 8 cores? I ask this because I have lot of plug ins that might not work on CS4 and dont want to have to upgrade to CS4 if there isnt any improved performance from CS3 to CS4 on these new 8 core processors.

  I also have a question about ram preview. I read that ram preview only uses up half the ram power? is this true? I would love to be able to use all my ram for previews, since previewing takes up alot of time when i work on a project.

  Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated it. Im almost set on buying the new system but its gonna cost about $5 dollars. I just want to make sure there arent any huge problems before I spend this kind of money.

  oh quick question about internal hard drives. does it help with ram preview if i use disk cash and set it to the other internal hard drive or do they have to be set on an external hard drive with like a 800mb fire wire?

  Buy the thing. But don’t buy it specifically for After Effects if you have the SLIGHTEST reservation. You will always be angry at the thing for user errors, software glitches, and inappropriate design decisions. Find a used Intel from a previous generation.

  Eventually there may be updates to anything that doesn’t work now, except, of course, OpenGL, which is a sick joke.

  Drives contribute nothing to RAM preview. Maximum RAM usage is a combination of Adobe software and the OS and you have control over neither.
