    Gday all,
Im having problems capturing dv clips into Vegas Pro8 from a Sony HC1. I keep getting the warning “preview is turned off” when in the external capture window.
The program doesnt appear to be seeing the camera, stating the only device being ‘Microsoft AV/C subunit device’?
I have no problems capturing HDV clips with the same camera and overall setup.
I have done Google searches and found similar problems with earlier versions of Vegas only.
Any help out there would be awesome.
    cheers

Ah, the dreaded av/c subunit Windows error. I don’t think I’ve seen that one since the early WinXP days. And I never found a solution for it except to reinstall Windows.

But that may not be what you have. If Device Manager sees the camera and properly identifies it.

Wild guess time: Maybe the camera’s output is misconfigured when you switch to SD? i.e., You’re trying to output SD footage as HD? I think there are menu settings in the camera with options.

Does Windows Movie Maker capture SD okay?

Sometimes wild guesses aren’t right, but they help the person to keep working at it and solve the issue on their own. As in this case.

But really, you should post the exact solution along with any other relevant search tags you can think of, for people that have the problem in the future.
