I know that there is a way of editing audio in Vegas, but I forget. I did a wedding that I want to get some noise out of. I have the sound of high heels on tile floor, that I want to get rid of. How do I erase it, or drop the db’s to a minus range, other than using an envelope? I have Adobe Soundbooth that I just added as my editor in the audio tab in Vegas, but I am not sure I can fool with the audio now or not. I did a 2 camera project using Excalibur 5.5. I have already assigned the camera switches, and ran multi-cam. Not sure whether I now just render to mpeg2, and then mess with the audio or not.

If you have Soundbooth CS4 as your audio editor in Vegas, you can fool a lot with the audio. Open Soundbooth from Vegas. Click Shift + F to go to the spectral view. At the toolbar select the rectular selection tool or the lasso tool and select the disturbance in the spectral view. Keep the area as small as possible to make sure you hit as little as possible of the nornal sound. Then right click on the selection and choose PROCESSES and AUTO HEAL. This can do miracles…
There is no need anymore to reduce the overall dbs.

I have Soundbooth CS3. Does that apply to CS3 the same? The onyl problem, is I am creating a new avi with sound right, or at least changing the original one? When I select the audio track in Vegas, and go to SB, it drags the whole video/audio clip. Am I going to have to replace the clip in Vegas with the one I change in SB. Does changing it in SB, change it on the Vegas timeline w/o having to replace the clip with the new one the SB creates?

I’m not sure how well this works with Soundbooth CS3, since this function is enhanced in CS4. But you will find out when you try.
You can make a cut on both sites of the noise in your audio event and context click on this new event. Choose for OPEN COPY IN AUDIO EDITOR. It will generate a new take (only consisting of the small part of your audio), so your original audio will be undamaged.
When you are finished, close Soundbooth. It will ask you whether it should save the changes. Click yes and thats all. The new take will be on the timeline of Vegas.
