Having two problems with Sony Vegas Pro 8.0

    1) I’m editing a file, many different clips involved, loads of effects but this shouldn’t cause the problem I’m having. I have about 45 minutes of clips all together, the effects are just in the first 8 minutes.

Randomly, out of nowhere I get “Sony Vegas has stopped working”. Therefore it has to close and despite the auto-save saving my file, it is extremely annoying. The file takes 15 minutes to open every time, so you can see why I’m annoyed.

I have just finished the file, and I want to render it (Only first 8 minutes however). I have attempted rendering twice now (said it will take 8 hours). The first time, it got to 30% before coming up with the error “Sony Vegas has stopped working”, the second time it didn’t get passed 0%.

    2) This has always happened, and the larger the file, the worse it happens. Once the file is fully opened and editing can commence, everything works fine (forget the first problem for just a minute). However, when I click off of Sony Vegas into another program (such as Firefox, or even simply replying to a message in live messenger) and then return to Vegas, I have the spinning disk as my cursor showing its “working” or something and therefore I have to wait 10 minutes or so (depending on file size) before I can continue editing. This repeats everytime I click off of vegas. If I attempt to do anything withen the spinning disk period, it completely doesn’t respond and the only way out is to close and re-open (end task, the simple way doesn’t work ofc)

The first problem is extremely annoying, the second is workable, but would appreciate help with both, thanks a lot in advance.

For the second problem, try going into preferences,
and under the general tab make sure you tick “close
media files when not the active application

    …..maybe that can help.

i had both of these problems with Vegas Pro 8.1 64bit. when i upgraded to 9.0 64bit trial, those problems went away, and now the only big problem I have is that whenever I try to use the trimmer, it locks up (but the rest of Vegas continues to work fine). So I’ve learned to not use the trimmer and when i finish this project i will probably switch to Adobe Premiere Pro.

So try out Vegas 9.0 trial version. Also, what are your system specifications?

    -Steve

    [system information:]
    vista 64bit ultimate
    vegas pro 64bit
    core i7 940
    asus p6t mobo
    6gb corsair ram
    radeon 4850
    2x velociraptor 300gb
    2x wd caviar black 1t

    Windows Vista Home Premium
    3GB RAM
    Core 2 Duo T5800 2 GHz
    250 GB HDD

I’ll try out the solution to the second problem, don’t have access to my laptop at the moment.

Can Vegas 9.0 Trial support *.veg files? For some reason it can’t open them for me.

Steve, Have you already fully tried Adobe Premiere Pro on
a 64bit architecture and ran it thru its paces?

Hey, I done what you said, the box was already ticked however.

Still having both these problems, the first problem has only started to happen recently, like a week ago.

    Thanks for any help

Actually for the second problem you want to uncheck the option to close files. The problem is that the files are getting closed and then when you switch back, Vegas has to open them all again. By unchecking this option, Vegas will keep them open. This means that you can’t edit them in other applications while Vegas has them open but it does make switching back quicker.

For the first problem, what format/codec are the source files and where did they come from. I’m thinking it’s the file format that may be the issue.

    *.mpg

    Thats all I know, sorry.

I rendered a small video yesterday with 3 of the clips (16 seconds long video). Rendered fine, no problems.

Tried to render again this morning (the 8 minute long video), came back a few hours later, it was making good progress at 45% or so. Yet when I got to 57%, it stopped rendering and the “Vegas Pro has stopped working” came up.

This is happening on both vegas pro 8, and 9.

I’ll try your solution to my first problem, but the second problem is the most important atm. I dont think it is the codecs of the video clips, simply because I’ve made loads of videos with the same video types (recorded from exact same method, using dvd recorder + nero vision).

There are some clips (2 or 3 our of about 100) that were recorded differently, they are *.avi I believe. Again, I doubt this is the problem.

    Thanks again for reading
