  • 3ds max to vegas – what’s the file type

I’m using a path deformation in 3ds max to animate an echocardiogram. But I’m not sure what filetype would be best for importing into vegas pro…

Would it be better to render the animation out as a sequence of targa files, or should I render a movie file (.mov, mp3, etc)?

I just want it to look as clear as possible.

    Thanks,

    Valerie

I’ve had really good results with the Quicktime Animation codec (since it is designed for this kind of work) but a sequence of targas is equally as good. Just make sure you get the Pixel Aspect Ratio correct. If 3D Studio max is rendering square pixels and your Vegas project is using non-square pixels you’ll have to alter the 3D render settings to compensate.

Thanks John. I didn’t realize that I’d have to be concerned with the pixel ratio, so thanks for mentioning that.

I also created a heartbeat spline in photoshop, which I had considered masking in vegas pro. I figured I could reveal it over time and this might simulate the same effect, I just figured there should be an easier way in Max. Guess I’ll give them both a try and see what I like better.

    THanks again.
