Vegas 9 mov rendering problem
After installing Vegas 9, I tried to render a mov file, and the render appeared to complete immediately although no file was created. (Yes, I had a loop area selected). I thought I was render in Vegas 8, but the same thing happened there. Other format work fine. Any ideas?

Are you using the 64-bit version of Vegas Pro 9.0 and do you have the 64-bit version of Quicktime installed? Did you render to a resolution that the codec supports? A mov file is just a container. You can use any codec in it. What codec did you use?

I’m not using 64 bit OS, Vegas or QT.
In terms of codec, I’ve tried Sorenson 3, several presets and uncompressed. None work in either Vegas 9 or 8.I also uninstalled and reinstalled the current version of QT pro, with the same results.

Wow that’s strange. Especially since you re-installed Quicktime which would have been my next suggestion. I can’t imagine what it is (sorry)

I failed to mention I’m using XP from a Mac Pro with boot camp. It might have something to do with that. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Vegas 9, and I got a slightly different behavior with the render progress window going immediately to 100% and stalling there.
I’m trying to send an email support request to sony, but their interface is maddening. I’ll report back if and when I resolve this.

Reporting back that Sony Media customer service has apparently blown me off on the grounds that I’m using Windows XP via boot camp on a Mac. I can understand why it might be difficult to support windows on boot camp, but I know I’m not the only one running Vegas in this way and, unless I’m the only one who is unable to encode .mov files after Vegas 9 install, it would seem reasonable they would want to fix such a basic problem.

Okay, now I’m taking back what I said about Sony in my previous post. Customer Service did follow up with me. They didn’t actually fix my problem but they didn’t just blow me off either.
I have resolved my mov encoding issue. It turned out to be an issue with the main production drive in my machine. I’m still not sure exactly what the issue is (something in QT was having trouble with the file path) but I can encode to other drives on the machine, so all is well. Long live Vegas!
