  • Sony crashes all the time while rendering. Please help!

    Hi,

I am working on a home video project which has a duration of 9 minutes in total. Sony Vegas Pro (V 8.0C) is crashing continuously when I try to render my video. It is crashing even for the render settings below.

    3 Mbps
Audio: 96 Kbps, 44,100 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo.
    Video: 30 fps, 640×480, WMV V9 Compression.

I have the following tracks in my project.

Track 1: Subtitles (Video) (3D track motion)
    Track 2: Video
    Track 3: Audio
    Track 4: Background music

I have a Dual Core, Vista Home Premium (64 Bit) with 4 GB RAM. Can someone please help me with this problem? What should be the settings to get good quality output without this ‘crash’ issue? Any help will be really appreciated.

    Best regards
    Ranjeet

Has this just started happening or has it been acting up for some time?
Is it crashing at the same point each time?
Is it crashing if you try to render to other formats?

Render to DV-AVI first, bring that file into a new instance of Vegas and then try rendering that to WMV.

What are your render threads set and Dynamic RAM preview set to?
Try 128 MB for RAM and 2 threads and see if that helps.

    Hi Mike,

Thanks for your reply. I tried 128 MB for Dynamic RAM and 2 threads and was able to render in DV-AVI! Thanks a lot.

Now the big problem is the file size. The AVI output file is 1.8 GB and so I am not able to upload in online video sites (YouTube, 4Shared etc). Is that any way I can reduce the file size without compromising on the quality? Please advise.

This is the 1st time I am doing a lengthy project. I was able to render in HD for smaller projects with less than 2 minute duration. This project (9 minute duration) is causing problems in all higher formats.

Thanks in advance for your expert suggestions.

    Best regards

    What are the original files?

I’ve had great luck using the following:
    Render to Mainconcept AVC/AAC (*.mp4)
Default template and click on custom.
    Check (include Video)
    Frame size 1280 x 720
Field order (None – Progressice scan)
    Pixel aspect 1.000
    reference frames 2
    VBR Max = 8,000,000
    Average = 5,000,000
    Check include audio
    Sample rate 48,000
    bitrate = 128,000

    Start with those.
    You Tube

    and at Vimeo

    Vimeo has much better quality.

    Hope this helps

    Allen,

I use similar setting in Pro 8.0c (the 32-bit version). Are you having success rendering with these settings in 9.0? And if so, are you using the 32-bit build or the 64-bit build?

I ask only because I’m wondering (now that the upgrade is on order and should arrive in the next day or two) whether I should hold off on installing it, now that I’m reading scattered reports of rendering failures. I really want to check out the 64-bit version in particular, but I’m concerned about mucking up my workflow for a few weeks (or longer) this early after the release.

At the same time I don’t want to take a few scattered reports for more than they might be, as there are always a few failed installs, device conflicts and who knows what all else to contend with in any new upgrade.

    Thanks for your kind attention.
