Light Wrap / Bloom background
Does anyone have any suggestions on a way to create a ‘light wrap ‘(as in many high end chroma key apps) or ‘bloom effect’ where the background washes around the foreground?

Boris FX has a light wrap in their chroma key tools. It’s not that expensive and does an outstanding job.

Thanks John …. I have tried Boris FX (trial) …. their ‘light wrap’ feature does work well, however, I have problems with Boris* (apparently) not being compatible with the video card in my notebook (which I often use – immediately freezes either as a plugin or standalone).
I had the most success with (on difficult keys eg translucent hair) Cinegobs (importing with Avisynth) … & importing the keyed file back into vegas as a png image sequence. I felt I was able to get a better result than with Boris FX.
To be able to complete the process within Vegas with the equivalent of light wrap, certainly for some backgrounds would ‘sell the shot’.

I really wish Vegas keyer had spill supression, but you can help by putting as much room between your forground subject and the screen, backlight with a magenta gell on it, as it’s the opposite color of green.

If you only have Vegas available and you have a spill problem, then I recommend Cinegobs (remember it is free). The media is keyed as progressive frames and the ‘spill suppressor’ works very well.
You can import AVI’s directly or other media using Avisynth (again free)eg HDV and send the keyed file back to Vegas as either an AVI (needs to be less than 2MB – use Lagarith or uncompressed) or alternately export as a PNG (no file size limit) and bring this in as an image sequence. Keep in mind that the files if uncompressed will grow up to 20x’s in size. The outcome will be superior to Vegas (in my view).Graham
