    I recorded a performance that was around 80 minutes using DV Rack 2.0 HD and a Sony HDR-HC1. The performance appeared to record without incident, resulting in a file of about 17 GB.

    When I place this (m2t) file on the timeline of Sony Vegas Pro 8.0/8.1 and Sony Vegas 7.0 the program only sees the first 23 minutes of the recording. If I open the DV Rack-created file in a media player (e.g., VLC) it shows the entire 80 minute recording.

    Has anyone encountered this type of behavior and if so do you have any suggested solutions?

    Thanks!

    Rob

    p.s. I opened the DV Rack-created m2t in several other non-Vegas programs and they too see only 23 minutes of the 80 minute recording, so I think this is a file issue and not something specific to Vegas.

    VLC uses it’s own codecs, that’s why you can playback the entire clip without any problem.

    In Options/preferences/general, there are two switches;
    `Ignore third party DV codecs`
    `Use Microsoft DV codec`

    Experiment with them, it might work.

    If not, I suggest you ingest the video using Vegas Capture.

    Ali,

    Thanks for your response. I tried changing those CODEC options in Vegas with no luck.

    You mention “capturing”. Do you mean use the taped version of the event rather than that recorded to HDD by DV Rack HD, or is there a way to use the Vegas Capture utility to import the DV Rack created m2t?

    I think he meant capturing from tape again so it will be encoded with a codec that Vegas reads without problem.
    As far as I know, Vegas Capture can’t import from file. It doesn’t work like a converter.
    Besides, I guess converting (decoding and re-encoding) the m2t file using a conversion util will take as much time as recapturing it from tape.

    Yes, I think it’s better to capture again from the tape. You can also try to convert your .M2T file into .MPG with a converter like Super(c) but can’t be sure about the output quality.
