I have the identical experience as Evan Peters – I also had no problems with Vegas versions prior to 8 (and 9 that I just tried and uninstalled after) and DVD Architect 4.5.
However, Vegas 8 and 9 and Architect 5 produce a DVD that has terrible jitters on all camera pans – horizontal & vertical.
My source is always the same – already mpeg2 from the Sony DVD-Camcoder and I always render the final output to mpeg2 using the standard preset (PAL Widescreen for Architect), then render again to get the AC3 audio, preview the “raw” .MPG file (no problem whatsoever, smooth as silk) and then create the DVD with Architect. I never consider the preview function in Architect to be representative of final DVD quality, I simply use it to test the DVD structure and behaviour of the Menus.
Once everything is 100% fine, I create the DVD and preview (on the PC). At that point, the jitter is already there, so it’s definitely not the incompatibility of equipment.
So… Vegas? Architect? Standard presets? I am keen to believe that it’s the Architect that is at fault here, because the mpeg2 rendered by Vegas is smooth, but there is still a possibility that the mpeg2 settings/parameters are simply not right for Architect?
I’m just a casual user, family & travel movies etc. My knowledge of production techniques and understanding of the tuning of the parameters is near zero – that’s why I simply use the recommended presets. The point is – I didn’t change anything in my workflow (except the software versions), so it has to be something with V.8/9 and A.5.
Posible solution? (have not had the time to try it yet): https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/24/885588
