Sony Vegas 8.0c crashes on startup
Posted by Mitchell Stevens on April 3, 2009 at 5:29 amI recently installed Sony Vegas 8.0c on my computer and when I go to execute Vegas, everything on the splash screen loads until it reaches it’s final stage – ‘creating windows’. From there on it just freezes with 1/4 of the UI loaded in the top left hand corner… I just have to reset my computer after that as everything locks up. Any help will be appreciated!

April 4, 2009 at 6:23 amI tried re-installing Sony Vegas after rebooting my computer but still, it made no difference – it still freezes at ‘creating windows’. The last stage.

April 8, 2009 at 7:30 pmYou might want to try uninstalling Nero 8. It creates hooks into several video codecs and is responsible for Boris RED not working with DV footage from Vegas if it’s installed. It’s worth a shot just to see if it helps.

April 9, 2009 at 5:59 amI tried uninstalling Nero 8, and re-installed Sony Vegas, but it still froze at ‘Creating Windows’. I know it’s not Sony Vegas because absolutely everything loads perfectly before it starts creating windows
Thanks for your helpMitch

April 9, 2009 at 1:04 pmSorry to hear that didn’t do it. The next thing I would try is turning down display hardware acceleration. Since it is hanging when creating windows, perhaps it’s a display driver issue? Right-click on the desktop and select Properties | Settings | Advanced | Troubleshoot and turn Hardware acceleration down. Also make sure you have the latest display drivers for your graphics card. Other than that, I can’t think of anything else it might be.

April 10, 2009 at 1:01 amIt still froze with Hardware Acceleration off and Nero 8 uninstalled. My graphics card is NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200, is that too old? It has 128mb of memory. Thanks for your solutions, but still, Sony Vegas is beating me :P. When it loads up, CyberLink programs flash up on the plug-ins being loaded, could it be that program? I only have CyberLink installed for my video camera
Thanks for everything

It could be. Vegas will look for any DirectX filters on your system and it could be that the video or audio filters from CyberLink are not behaving properly. It’s worth a try to uninstall and see.
