  • Vegas no longer imports mpeg?

Posted by Patrick Bertovich on March 21, 2009 at 10:07 pm

I have Sony Vegas movie studio 8.0.

I went on vacation this past week and recorded a bunch of stuff. I come back to find out that Vegas no longer imports the video files from my camera which are Mpeg. It imports avi’s fine but not the mpeg. Thing is, it has imported those Mpeg files perfectly fine in the past.

I also tried importing an older mpeg clip to see if it the new footage was just corrupt but it won’t import the old stuff either.

When I try to import them it freezes then an error comes up and closes the program.

Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Try reinstalling Vegas and see if this clears up…

What software have you installed between the MPEG’s working and not working? Something you installed recently is probably causing Vegas to fail. You need to find out what this is.

I downloaded it offline. How do I reinstall it if I got off sony.com.

    I’ll try to reinstall it.

and I don’t think any new programs have been installed. I have been gone for a week and nothing has changed, maybe windows updated and mess ed it up, not sure why it would.

If you can’t import mpg2 or mts files then your license if corrupted somehow. This happens when ppl pirated or hacked Vegas 8.0a so that it works beyond the trial period (w/o online registration). I don’t know why your Vegas mpg license got messed up but reinstall and re-registration the software using the online registration will clear up the issue.

I installed procoder3 and that somehow messed up my Vegas mpg codec license. I talked to SONY and got the above information.

I always keep windows update turned off. It it ain’t broke… don’t fix it. I have had windows update mess up my PC before. Never again. I only update after I have backed up my system so that I can restore it if something goes wrong.

    Good luck,
