dvcpro 720/60
Hi,
Working in AE CS3. My files are DVCPRO 720/60. AE does not have a comp setting for this. How come? What should I use? Thanks to all of you in advance. -

i don’t know why ae doesn’t have a dvcprohd 720p60 preset… the closest it has is dvcprohd 720 29.97.
what you can do is use dvcprohd 720 29.97 and change the frame rate to 59.94 fps, then click the little button to the right of the preset dropdown (the icon looks like a page turning). this will allow you to save the current settings as a preset, making it easier the next time you need this comp setting.

when I changed the comp to 59.94 and rendered the movie it opened in QT as 1.33:1 not 16:9. Is there a comp setting for PAR? Should I change the 960 to 1280? Or is this a square verses rectangle pixel issue? Your knowledge is appreciated.

the native par for dvcprohd 720 is 1.33. but you don’t have to work in a 1.33 par comp, i often work in a square pixel comp with hd footage… so for 720, the comp size would be 1280×720…
the only question that comes up is what is the next step and will the next step take 1280×720 square pixel, or will it expect 960×720 1.33 par. i’ve found that most nle’s will take the square pixel frame size, converting it if necessary… but i don’t know where you are going after ae…

I’m importing into Avid Media Composer at 720/60 dvcpro. I’m going to test this now.
Another question, somewhat unrelated, I need help with. Working in AE with DVCPRO 720/60 footage and adding SD footage from Video Copilot Action Essentials. I’m mixing frame rates. Does AE interpret the SD/24 footage into the 720/60 composition setting automatically? Should I re-render/interprolate the SD/24 footage first then add it to the composition?

Ah yes, from 24 to 60 is 2.5X. If I’m bring 24fps into a 60fps composition do I need to manually Interpret the footage to conform to the composition rate of 59.94? Or will AE do it for me? Thanks in advance.

Interpreting the 24fps clips to the composition setting (960 720/59.94) with a DVCPRO Quicktime codec of AVID HD worked perfectly. Created the preset. Thanks
