For what it’s worth. Heard today from a Dell person that next version of Vegas looks like it may have graphics card GPU support. Would be nice!

Drat 🙁 Can always hope I guess. Beats me why they can’t or don’t. The big jump in decreased render times with MagicBullet Editors v2.0 plug in with its GPU support over the originally supplied Vegas MagicBullet Movie Looks HD is enormous. I have had, depending on filters, ten to seventeen times shorter renders when using any of Editors v2.0 plugins . Even Adobe Premiere makes use of GPU assist in many of their transitions. Can’t be too hard surely? Come on Sony!

A-Any beta tester or informed person who knows *anything* about Vegas 9 and makes a public comment better hope they have a good attorney. Sony has gone after beta testers for public comments before. Their NDA is pretty severe. As a general rule, anyone commenting on Vegas betas in public is uninformed at best.

B-Without making reference to any aspect of what may or may not be in future versions of Vegas, Vegas does not use an HAL/hardware application layer, and doesn’t have hooks for generalized hardware conversation. Therefore, folding in any sort of hardware-assisted rendering is actually a pretty big deal. Vegas has always been hardware independent, and I don’t see any indicators that would shift that direction.

It’s ironic, in the early days of Vegas 2, everyone loved that Vegas could preview to an external monitor and render as fast as anyone without hardware requirement. Back in those days, you had to have a Targa/FAST/Canopus/Matrox/Pinnacle card just for DV. Unless you used Vegas.
Now a few folks are begging Vegas to become hardware dependent. 😉

    DSE ~

    Points A & B taken and understood.

I wasn’t leaning to specific hardware re IO cards etc but was just curious on the fact that if the Red Giant plugins in Vegas can utilize GPU assist why can’t other Vegas Event FX plugins be re-written to do the same. I’ve been with Vegas since v3.0 and love the fact that it has been hardware independent. Believe me after spending quantum dollars over the years on the likes of Discreet Edit systems with real-time hardware and real-time 3D boards etc only to watch them become redundant in a few years is a path I don’t want to go down again. Seeing Vegas running uncompressed on an i7 processor with 10k rpm raid shows us we are virtually real-time in most cases so am quite happy to continue the way we are going. It’s just a shame to see the extra GPU power going to waste when obviously some developers can harness it from within Vegas.
