Is Dell the way to go for a laptop I can take on the road with me? I will be shooting with the following cameras, EX1, HVX 170 and a Canon Mark 2 DSLR. And some 100B DV footage.

I will be using Sony Vegas Pro, Sound Forge, DVDA.

OR should I run Windows on a Kick A** Mac Pro laptop….?

If money were no option what is good scenario. I need to have speed for clients who need same day rough edits or at a minimum overnight. $3000 is my budget. I expect this to work for at least 18 months.

    Thanks,

    Thomas

    Hi
My personal opinion? mac Book Pro. Yes you can install XP using the Bootcamp assistant as I was going to do. But with only a 120gb HD I decided not to. Although I hear you can install Windows on an external drive.

So I’ve been using FCE and now I’m getting Studio 2 because that’s what you need for the P2 camera on a Mac. Express won’t do it.

However another thing is on the brand new MBP’s there’s no firewire. I dunno what Apple’s doing there. MBP’s got the new Pcie slots so you need that adapter for the P2. I don’t know about the SxS card size though. I also plan to get the HPX-170

The latest MacBook Pro DOES have firewire (FW800). The MacBook does not have firewire. You can use a FW 800 to 400 cable for FW400 devices. But, do what I did, I bought the previous generation MBP with a 2.4 ghz processor and a 200gig drive new for $1400. It runs windows XP just great. Look around, I bet you can still find one.
