March 1, 2009 at 6:10 pmIs the video compressed? If it is mpeg, then this might explain it. Try using an uncompressed version of the asset.

March 1, 2009 at 8:17 pmwhen you say that it holds a few frames, then plays a few fine, then holds a few frames, are you stepping thru the comp using the pg up or pg down keys, playing the footage via a ram preview (hitting zero on the numbers pad, not spacebar) or playing back a render from after effects?
if you are stepping thru the footage in a comp, and you see a pattern that develops of 2 duplicate frames and 3 unique frames, then you most likely have footage that is actually 24p, but is in a 29.97fps comp. change the comp to 23.976 fps and it should remove the duplicate frames.
if it is while you are watching the ram preview render, it may be that you are seeing how ‘rendering multiple frames simultaneously’ works. as it renders, you’ll often see ‘surges’ of frames get rendered then lag as the the next frames process. ae7 doesn’t have this feature so things would render at a more consistent rate. if you are seeing it after the ram preview starts playing in realtime, then it is something else… if you are seeing it when you hit spacebar, use ram preview instead (hit zero on the numbers pad).
if it is during playback of a render from ae, then you may have rendered to a file type that has a data rate that is too high for your drive to playback in realtime (like lossless or uncompressed files). the file is probably fine, but your drive can’t keep up with the data rate of the file. if your drive at work is faster, then you would not see this problem there…

there isn’t a link (at least not in my browser)…
if you choose interpret footage fot the footage in ae7, are the settings any different than in cs3? are they both interpreting as 23.976 (not separating fields)? or are they doing something else?

March 2, 2009 at 9:42 amI just downloaded the project files and imported the footage into AE. After dragging the footage to the “Make New Comp” button, I hit “0” on the num pad, and the RAM preview plays faultlessly. I’m using CS3, and don’t see the problem you are having. That would seem to rule out the footage as being the problem. It also shows that it’s not a CS3-specific problem.

and see if its ok -

March 2, 2009 at 5:01 pmi see what you’re talking about… i don’t have ae7 to compare it to, but i can see that the file is completely fine in quicktime, or within cs3, if you double click the footage and open it into the viewer (which i believe is actually a quicktime viewer within ae) and step though it using the arrow keys.
i’ve used photo-jpeg compression before and i haven’t seen anything like this… my guess is that it is either a bug in cs3, or a problem with the file. since the file looks good in quicktime, i’m leaning towards a bug in cs3.
i’d be curious if you posted this in adobe’s ae forum, what they might have to say over there. i doubt adobe is going to release an update for cs3, but there may be a workaround within ae. the only thing i can think of is to export the file to another file, like lossless animation, using quicktime pro or an nle. then see how the converted file comes in to cs3.

it plays fine on my computer also but not when you move frame by frame ill try an export it to different file type but its weird why it works fine on AE 7.0
i didnt post it on adobe i wanted first to see if its something i can fix myself or maybe its a bug with my CS3 and if it is ill send mail to adobe
