Rendering in Vegas 8? No way!
Hi guys, i’ve been using vegas since 6.0 but i never had so many problems rendering like now.
I’m having a Q6600 at 2.4 and 2gb of ram, several HDDs all at 7200 rpm (some external USB) and i’m trying to render wmv, avi or any format that would work (HD 1440×1080).
Most footage was shot with with Sony FX1 and most of it has been previously rendered at the same size. (never without problems!)The project is about 3 min long and yes it contains many parts of footage, on different HDDs, many FX, colour correction, resizing, animation and so on but i thought editing software is made to do all these.
I’m trying to render…not the whole movie, just 10 seconds at the time and maximum 3-5 tracks at a time…no chance!
I tried moving all the tracks in another project already (and yes i had to re-place all the key frames). I tried nesting. I shut down all other programmes…nothing!
Everytime i try, vegas gives me an error message or simply shuts down in a very elegant manner: it simply disappears!If anyone had similar problems or anyone can give any advice (except “dump Vegas use FC”) i would be forever grateful.

Is your source ONLY HDV footage? Any stills, or other codecs on the timeline?

No. Some stills mostly PNG, some of the footage is WMV at 720/576 but all footage has been rendered previously in vegas on the same computer.
I tried to render parts where are only parts of footage from the same original file and is still failing.I really don’t know what can be wrong…

How big are the PNG’s? For 720×576 video they don’t need to be any bigger than 720×576 unless you are zooming into them in which you can double that resolution. Extremely large stills will cause problems.

“What’s the error message?”
after few complete crashes i got this message during a render of 10 seconds (9 tracks on solo) with only one jpeg (480×270) and all the FX for those tracks turned off…

That is a memory access error while trying to write to memory. It could be a faulty RAM chip or just a bug in Vegas. Here is a pretty good article that gives some things that you can try:
The easiest thing to do is check your RAM with a memory test program. If that doesn’t yield anything I would contact Sony tech support first and ship them the project with just that one image and see if they can recreate it.

I tested the memory and no errors were discovered. Just to make sure, i bought another 2Gb and i’ll try rendering again later.
Sending it to Sony is out of the question since i can’t wait for so long and i live in a country where there is no Sony software rep.
I’ll use vegas only for simpler stuff, i start to believe is simply incapable of dealing with large amounts of data and FX (not that i know Premiere or FC would deal better with it). I’m sure Windows doesn’t help either.Regards
