Re: Vegas 9 Platinum for 64 bit Vista
I just upgraded my system to a Gateway FX 6800 I7 with 64 bit Windows Home Premium. I called Sony Creative and asked about using Re: Vegas 9 Platinum which I currently use on a 32 bit version. Sony said they don’t support the 64 bit version now but to check the “forums” to see what others have done.
So my question is has any body been able to install Re: Vegas 9 Platinum on a Windows Home Premium 64 bit system and if so what if any special things should watch for or do?

I don’t know why Sony support is being so fussy over Vista 64. Their web site says they support Vista and Vista 64 is Vista so I don’t see how they can say they don’t support it unless they specifically say Vista 32 only (which they don’t!) Perhaps they mean it won’t take advantage of Vista 64 (which it won’t, it just runs in 32-bit mode)
Just install the software and don’t worry. Vista 64 runs 32-bit applications just fine. I have tons of 32-bit applications running on Vista 64 without any problems. Considering that there are only a handful of 64-bit applications available, Vista 64 would be useless if it didn’t handle 32-bit applications flawlessly.

I also initially had this question and went ahead with the install and didn’t have problems getting it installed (I have plenty of other issues but I’m attributing that to being new to video editing and maybe too light of a machine)

I have Vegas Platinum 8, also “Vista compatible,” but what loads with it on XP often does not load on Vista 64, or it hangs up eternally there. I don’t have the “Vista runs 32-bit programs flawlessly” experience, although I love that nice ideal. So, as I read of people who run Platinum 9 Pro-Pack on Vista 64 without any problems, and those who say the opposite, I wonder if there is a way to be sure that it will run well on Vista 64?

The only way to be sure is to ask the manufacturer and as I said, Sony claims that Movie Studio Platinum 9 does not support Vista 64. So you’ll have to try it and see if it works for yourself on your PC.

Hi,
I just buy Vegas Platinium Pro Pack and get same symptom with Vista 64 bits, hangs for eternity, unstability, crash…
I requested support on Sony website bu don’t get any answer yet.
Do you have some bad/good experience on your side ?
